Subscription Information

For an overview of our journals, please see our GSW Journals At-A-Glance page. All subscriptions are currently sold on an institutional basis (see below). Individual subscriptions to GSW are not possible at the moment. Everyone has access to abstracts, tables of contents and non-GeoRef searches, but to see full text of articles and use GeoRef, your institution must be a subscriber. Please check with your librarian to see if you have access, and if not, ask them to subscribe. We hope to bring individual subscriptions online in the future. We offer pay-per-view on most of our journals, as indicated on our Journals-At-A-Glance page. You may also obtain copies of single articles by contacting the respective publisher(s), your librarian, or a document delivery service. Information on the AGI/GeoRef document delivery service is given below.

Document Delivery Service

GSW works with the document delivery service provided by AGI/GeoRef. They charge a base fee of $14.00 per order + $0.25/page copying costs + copyright royalties where applicable. Color and map copying as well as expedited delivery will incur additional charges. They advise that you first try to obtain the article through your library -- they may be able to get it for you at no cost.

If not, AGI/GeoRef would be happy to provide a copy of the article in which you are interested. Typically, turn around is 5-7 business days. For more information, please visit their AGI/GeoRef Document Delivery Service web page.

Overview of GSW

GSW provides access to scientifically peer-reviewed full-text articles from high impact geoscience publications with linking between cited references and articles within the GSW database and outside of GSW through CrossRef.  The ability to search the database and review abstracts of GSW articles is an open access activity.

Although the core value of GSW is the collection of articles and data set linkage, GSW also is integrated with GeoRef, the bibliographic search database published by AGI that includes information on over 3500 publications.  Direct linkage exists from a GeoRef search to all articles within GSW and cross linking to references outside of GSW is accomplished with CrossRef.  GeoRef integration results in a search of geoscience and allied publications that is as complete as possible.  Literally no stone is left unturned.  GeoRef also provides linkage to other open access digital files, such as USGS, State Surveys, etc.

Millennium Collection

The Millennium Collection includes peer-reviewed articles from 33 high impact journals covering a broad range of geoscience areas.  The collection is constantly updated with the most current journal issues as they are published.  All journals have a minimum of one back year and most have all issues back to 1/1/2000.  This collection is only available as an aggregated digital collection.  A subscription to GeoRef is a required part of the GSW subscription either through an existing vendor arrangement or through GSW.

Literature Archives

Many of the participating publishers have also included past issues of their journals prior to 2000.  These issues are fully searchable via GeoRef and while the full-text files are only available in PDF format, they are included within the overall GSW database without any additional charge for 2005.  Some of these volumes begin with the earliest issues of the journals, dating back to 1911. We anticipate over 300 volume-years of legacy material.  GSW is dedicated to helping all of its participating publishers upload all of their previous printed issues online within the GSW database

Journals

GSW's growing collection includes more than 30 peer-reviewed, high-impact geoscience periodicals. For the latest list of these publications, please see our Journals-At-A-Glance page.
