Abstract: Index Terms/Descriptors: GeoRef, Copyright 2004, American Geological Institute.
If P-wave velocity depends on azimuth, travel-time tomography is non-unique for external sources and receivers. For two dimension, travel-time data can be completely fitted in terms of isotropic P velocity. We obtain analytic expressions that specify the trade-off between anisotropy and heterogeneity.
